Since 1956
Calumet Armature & Electric was founded in 1956 and is located in Riverdale, Illinois, a suburb south of Chicago.
The Company’s business model today is similar to the original business model: repair and remanufacturing of industrial electrical motors. Originally located in Chicago, the Company moved to its present location in Riverdale, Illinois in 1971.
Today Calumet Armature & Electric is a leading manufacture and remanufacture of large AC and DC electric motors for industrial and transit applications. Industrial applications include large crane motors and factory machine motors for steel mills and rolling mills. Our transit business manufacturers and rebuilds traction motors/armatures for the mass transit market throughout major metropolitan cities in the United States.
Services
Calumet Armature manufactures and rebuilds traction motors/armatures for major mass transit authorities and industrial applications; these services include, but are not limited to, the design, rebuild, and remanufacture of the electrical apparatus in train engines, large crane motors, factory machine motors, and the like. The Company’s strength is its capabilities to repair/rebuild traction motors to OEM specifications so as to provide an equivalent to acquiring a new motor directly from the OEM. The Company also manufacturers completely new armatures that are able to replace many OEM equipment, particularly in mass transit applications. Being electrical-mechanical in nature, Calumet Armature’s expertise is specialized; few mechanics can provide similar services, generating higher demand for their services. The Company makes repairs both in-house and on-site, depending on customer needs.
Technical Expertise
A Calumet Armature mechanic typically completes a thorough, four-year apprenticeship. The Company’s personnel are trained for the specific work performed. There exists a high standard and expectation for technical superiority through continued training and awareness of advancements in the field.
